Inspiring salesperson

I met a good person

Sometimes, there are people who can only engage in superficial conversations, or who try to show off to customers, or some people in customer support work like robots. There's a lack of communication in business that conveys the fundamental human belief of "I believe in this!" It's a waste.

If someone decides, "That job is fine with AI from now on," those people will truly lose their jobs.

I think people should make what is inside them—that feeling of "This is what I believe in!" and excitement—their work. (Note: Being excited doesn't necessarily mean you have to be smiling all the time, keep that in mind.)

For instance, even if he were someone who had to work strictly according to a manual, if he had a sense of belief, he would deeply study the origins of that manual, and furthermore, he might even become one of the people who make those manuals even better.

Well, putting that aside, let's get back to the story of the person I met.

I was at a store looking for a specific used item. That's when he appeared. He looked to be in his late 30s, tall and thin, and he became the staff member in charge of me. My first impression was: "The epitome of blunt." He didn't offer any unnecessary greetings, just something like, "Uh, customer, what can we do for you?"

So, when I asked about the condition of the various products on display,

"Hmm, I'm not really sure. I mean, it's a used item, so you can't really tell if its condition is truly good until you actually use it—it's pretty much a matter of luck, good or bad. Also, we don't display everything fully repaired when we don't even know if it's going to be bought. That would be a lot of trouble."

I thought to myself. This person is ridiculously right.

And then he says, "However, if a problem does arise, we are prepared to fix it and we have the parts, so don't worry." That right there is the key to his business.

I said, "But beforehand, don't you check to see if it's okay and investigate? If there are check items, can you show them?"

He says, "Yes, we have it, but we only fix what's broken and preserve what's in good condition. So, how should I put it, not every single item gets the exact same checklist treatment, so please understand."

So, I asked about the product, "What do you think about the condition of this?"
He says, "Hmm, I don't know, I have to try using it."
Me "lol"

I love it. It's just fantastic. From start to finish, completely consistent, and never pandering. He only speaks the truth, and his convictions come across clearly. I say this because I've been fooled time and time again by people who just offer bizarrely polite greetings and chat you up with flattery.

What's great about this is that he understands his own company's service. Not only does he prevent his service from being needlessly and excessively cheapened or abused by customers, but he also properly recommends the optimal service. I love it.

Then, when I asked him about the product's characteristics rather than its condition, a flood of information and fun stories surrounding the product came pouring out of him. It was fun.

Our conversation flowed well, and we got a bit closer. I think I should take a page from his book. And yeah, I ended up buying it. Lol (Even at large corporations, I seriously think we should focus right now on workshops about this kind of communication, "belief," and the unique balance only enthusiastic people can hold.)
