Mexicans are kind and fun. Above all, the food is delicious. Their human quality is high. The culture is also interesting; although Spain conquered them, the unique culture of the indigenous people remained and blended. For example, when you go to the hospital, they apparently prescribe local traditional medicines, like 'Chinese herbal medicine,' within the context of Western medicine.

A country with deep culture and interesting aspects.

Of course, there are dangers and bad things wherever you go. There are good people and bad people.   
Japan also has very bad people. Even by those standards, it's an interesting country. It suits me. The desert there doesn't feel desolate. Even the cacti.

But in America, there were many people who would criticize various things about their neighboring country without even knowing it. Mexico is dangerous? Huh? America is a country where children are shot at school with considerable frequency, what a thing to say.

I saw many Americans in Mexico doing whatever they pleased, seriously. They completely look down on the local people. Americans who scatter fireworks, frighten local children, and party. They hardly speak Spanish. There's respect whatsoever.

When I said, 'You guys have bad attitudes!', they replied, 'These people are illegal immigrants in our country, they commit murder, there are fake police everywhere, they bring in drugs, they're terrible people, so it's okay!'... What kind of logic is that, are you in kindergarten? Aren't you a tourist here? It makes sense. I felt sad.

If you arrogantly force English on locals without speaking Spanish, you'll become a target for local gangs... (I'm sorry, I'm suddenly remembering how angry I was back then!)   
  
One day, I was standing in front of a hotel in Mexico, smoking a cigarette. Then, a conspicuously wealthy American family rudely asked, 'Hey you, where is XX Hotel?' When I responded with a 'Huh, I don't know' attitude, the family went ballistic. Later, I realized they didn't think I was a Mexican working at the hotel. They didn't even apologize. (And when I get a tan, I really do turn brown lol) Then, the Mexican hotel staff came out and apologized to me. 'Sorry, really, I'm sorry.' And they were angry for me, saying, 'Pinches Gringos!' They are kind people, but I realized they are always oppressed like that. It must be tough.

And I think.

I think it's America that will be troubled if the wall to Mexico is completely sealed. I don't have any statistical numbers or knowledge about the impact of labor shortages, but a day will come when America's domestic problems will be highlighted, making it unable to blame its neighbors.

I experienced firsthand that valuing heritage and culture was a low priority in America. In contrast, the country grew rapidly by pursuing and prioritizing efficiency and economic power. So I think that in America 'proper' (Hawaii is different!), the identity of being American (depending on the person) is often established by having a comparative country to blame, which defines who they are. I felt that at the time.   
  
(By the way, I don't care about that, but isn't it like the Bible, 'Love thy neighbors, man, love your neighbors?? Where is Love?)

Of course, there are good people and bad people. There are people in America to whom I am incredibly grateful beyond words. However, the overall impression is, unfortunately, I couldn't get used to it. I ended up staying for nearly 20 years, lol.   
  
But I think, whether it was bad luck or good luck, as someone from an island nation, experiencing the relationship between neighboring countries and especially respect for other countries firsthand allowed me to think about many things. I also learned a little Spanish. I don't think I could have survived without the interesting country of Mexico.   
  
That's why I'm grateful for many things in both America and Mexico.
