# 楽しい修理

Repairing is fun. More accurately, being able to fix things is fun.

If I had to name a "good experience" from my life so far, it might be when I experienced a WOOD and PLASTIC WORKSHOP in America. I was taught the basics, from hand tools to large tools, and learned safety thoroughly. For plastics, I was even made to read books on chemicals and properties. Speaking of metals, I also did welding.

I didn't think so at the time, but that knowledge and experience have been very helpful in my art production as well. There's also the mental aspect. As long as you can imagine it, you can enjoy the "illusion (haha)" that a certain level of things might be "possible".

So people often ask me, "Can you do this?". If I can imagine it, I say "Yes". Then they ask, "Have you ever done it before?". I've always answered with confidence, "I've never done it before," haha. But I've pulled it off. There were crash-landing incidents, miraculously...

I think both fixing and creating might take some courage. Cutting metal, drilling holes. "Wait, is this okay?? Drilling a hole right here??" "Is it really okay to paint this part??" But you know, as long as you have the basic knowledge, experience, and practice, it'll be fine. So rather than saying it's technically useful, it might be more accurate to say that having a mental foundation makes you unafraid.

In the past, I often used to cut, carve, glue, and patch up surfboards... I fixed them a lot. Now it's probably motorcycles. I have an old, beat-up motorcycle that an amateur can easily mess around with. It's kind of interesting to learn how the machinery works. Cutting, painting, extracting broken bolts, processing plastic... There are tons of tutorial videos on YouTube, and I think what a convenient world we live in.

It's fun to be able to fix things. What's especially fun is that my daughter always brings toys and whatnot and asks me, "Can you fix this?". And you know, I can fix them to a certain extent. She gets a huge smile on her face. Man, that is unbeatable.

Someday, I'm gonna have a garage like that—where paint drips and sparks fly!
